Montecristo Petit Edmundo (No Tube)
฿2,000
When Alonso Menéndez launched Montecristo in 1935 at Havana's Particulares Factory, he built a brand on artisan continuity — a philosophy that survived nationalisation only because torcedor José Manuel González stayed on as floor manager after the Menéndez family fled in 1960, preserving the house's rolling standards through the revolution. The Petit Edmundo is a 52-ring robusto gordo vitola, short enough for a focused smoke yet wide enough to carry the full Montecristo blend architecture. All tobacco — filler, binder, and wrapper — originates exclusively from Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Río, Cuba's premier growing zone, where red clay (colorado) soils and a tropical microclimate tempered by ocean breezes produce leaves of pronounced mineral complexity and natural sweetness. Construction is Totalmente a Mano, using the traditional entubado or accordion-fold long-filler technique that creates individual leaf tubes within the bunch, maximising draw consistency and even combustion across the wide ring gauge. Tobacco undergoes natural fermentation in pilones before blending, with standard production leaves aged approximately one to two years pre-rolling. What distinguishes the Petit Edmundo within the core portfolio is its format transgression: the 52-ring gauge forces the medium-to-full blend into a denser, slower burn that amplifies the cocoa and cedar registers the house is known for, while the shorter length keeps the smoke cooler than a full Edmundo. Drink now or rest up to five years in a calibrated humidor at 65–70% RH.
